Lawrences Farm – Southover
Lawrences Farm is in the hamlet of Southover, 0.5 mile across the meadows from the famous village of Tolpuddle; it was here in the 1830’s a group of farm workers held the first Trade’s Union meeting and were sent to Australia as convicts for their pains.
Since this high point in history the Piddle valley has lapsed into peaceful retirement, ideal for a rural holiday. The valley runs through the heart of Thomas Hardy Country and boasts a unique mixture of lush water meadows, woodland, acid heaths and chalk downland.
